Philosophy of Education:

I have plenty of firsthand experience struggling with mathematics and higher-level science classes. I have been a student in classrooms where learning was drudgery, and

in classrooms where learning was exciting and fun. It is no surprise that the most effective science and mathematics instruction is engaging, joyful, and dynamic. Science

and mathematics are beautiful disciplines, and I consider it a great shame that in so many educational settings the beauty has been hammered out of the curriculum with

little room for true appreciation. I consider it my calling to bring back the joyous wonder of learning science and mathematics, and it is my sincere hope to inspire true curiosity and love of scientific knowledge in all students. I acknowledge that there is no growth without discomfort, but I also do not see a need to add to this discomfort by following a policy of “no smiling until Christmas.”

Extracurricular Activities:

I have two young children and enjoy spending time as a family reading aloud, playing board games, hiking, and learning together. We love going to the library, the zoo, and

museums. In my free time, I am an avid reader of fiction and nonfiction, which fits nicely with my innate curiosity and love of learning. I also enjoy gardening and spending time outdoors.
